I love reading. It's as simple as that.
Note from Jamie: This is an older one from back in January. I just now stumbled upon it so thought I'd reblog. I love my cats :D
When posting in the new "Follow me if you like ..." group, I said that the cat lovers on this site could probably form a club. Well, now there is one ... so if you're a fan of all things feline, come check it out!

Okay, I was looking through a list of some published books that started off as fanfiction on goodreads and I ran into this book called Indivisible and it looked super familiar. It took me a moment to realize why. I had seen nearly the exact same book cover on A. Meredith Walter's Find You in the Dark.
Find you in the Dark was published first and I don't want to actually accuse anyone of anything. I mean maybe they have permission, maybe there's enough variation. I mean they did add dog tags and a blonde head of hair in the background. Still, it bothers me quite a bit to tell the truth.
Can you normally pretty much just use someone else's cover? Can you hire the same models and use them in the same pose but oh I don't know put a purse around her arm and call it your original work? I wouldn't! At the very least it's unethical but with Indivisible already being on a fanfic list it sure makes me wonder :/
I mean are they different enough? Not to me they aren't but that's just my opinion.
Again, I don't know all the facts and maybe there's a legitimate good reason or someone has permission. :/

I just now finished reading Ravaged (The Hunger #3) which is the third and final book in the The Hunger and I was simply blown away. I think I'm coming down with the flu, my throat is sore, my nose wont quit running, my heads pounding and I feel miserable but none of that mattered. I could not put this book down today. At around the 78% mark I noticed something very odd, my pulse was literally pounding, not from being sick or anything but from sheer excitement as the plot was nearing it's incredible conclusion. I could take my pulse just by touching my neck with one finger, hehe. I was on the edge of my seat through most of the book and the suspense was just killing me. I've said this on every single book review I've done of Jason Brant's books but it's always true. This author doesn't mess around. His stories don't beat around the bush, they just start out with one big bang and the explosions never stop. You just ride the shock-waves all the way until the very end. It just doesn't get any better than this. Ravaged had more than enough suspense, action and well rounded characters that you grow to love more and more with each passing book plus the pacing was beyond perfect. This series from start to finish was just a pleasure to read and one I have no doubt I'll be rereading many times in the future.
After the end of Consumed our heroes barely survived their encounter with the madman militant-psycho Ralph and ended up taking over his camp and now in Ravaged they're trying to keep everyone alive and survive the best they can. So far the lights have kept the Vladdies at bay but somethings happening, things are changing in the world and once again they find themselves fighting for their very lives. Will Lance and Cass ever find a bit of peace and a safe place to bring their child into the world? Will people ever stop making fun of Doc Emmett Brown's name? Will Greg ever stop saying Bro? Well great news! All of those questions and more will be answered in Ravaged.
I am so sad to see this series end. I've really grown attached to all of the characters especially Lance and Cass. I enjoyed watching Lance's evolution as he went from a depressed, self-loathing loser who couldn't hold down a job nor keep his marriage together to the hero he eventually became. All of the bad things in his life began to change the second he met Cass and he quickly became someone I liked and admired. Cass also had a very nice evolution even though it was a little more subtle than Lance's. Slowly she started becoming softer and started showing her emotions. Yeah she was still a badass but Lance helped her to see that not all men are jerks and helped to slowly peel away those layers of the shell that she had built around herself. Together the two of them were awesome and one heck of a team. I still love their banter and loved the fact that her term for Lance which is "dumbass" sort of became a term of affection. They were perfect for each other.
I was also really glad we get to spend more time with Doc Brown and Eifort on this one. I loved both characters and thought they were both interesting. Doc has always been a smart man as well as the wise leader that everyone went to for advice while Lance was just the natural sort of person that everyone looked up to because of his general good nature as well as his deeds. All four of our main heroes were instrumental in leading the group of survivors and I don't think they could have done it as well without every single one of them. You really get to see Doc and Eifort take charge and Doc Brown becomes so much more a man of action than he's previously been while Eifort who is still the best sharpshooter of the group shows her softer side. The characters were all well rounded, even the side characters. Adam along with some new additions were all extremely likable. Greg, well Greg is still a dumbass. I'm pretty sure he was dropped on his head a few dozen times as a child but really we owe ol' Greg a huge debt of gratitude because if it wasn't for the short story Lotion then Jason Brant might not have ever written this series. After he wrote the short story a lot of people sent feedback asking if he'd ever write more about this world so in a way we owe Greg everything. Doesn't that just really suck when you think bout it like that? Hahaha, I'm pretty sure Greg's response would be, "Awesome, Bro!".
I just cannot recommend this book or author enough. He's quickly become one of my favorite authors He along with another author who's books I love are the only two that I will completely drop whatever I'm doing to read. If I'm in the middle of another book then I'll just push it to the side to read one of theirs. They're just that good. I love how his books have so much action yet still have characters that you just absolutely love, characters that you can't stand the thought of losing and every time something bad happens you find yourself flipping ahead to make sure they're okay. Plus I totally love this cover. Cass looks freaking awesome with the Anarchy symbol and mohawk. Alas I've had to abandon all hope that she'd leave Lance for me. Lance is just way to awesome and I admire him too much. She's just way out of my league besides after all this time they now feel like family to me. I'd love to tell you about the end but I can't so instead I'll just say if you love a great zombie book then do yourself a favor and get this book and series. You have no idea what you're missing out on if you don't. Ravaged and the whole The Hunger series has all the classic makings of a legendary piece of zombie fiction. If they were made into movies today they would seriously be right up there with Day of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead, maybe even a bit better. They're just that good!
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I always know I'm going to enjoy this authors characters but still, it's a little bit scary when an author you love does something new. I mean I love New Adult Romances and even a little bit of Contemporary Romance but serials can be very hit and miss with me. On one hand I enjoy reading a small-format story that will be continued every few weeks or so. It can be fun and exciting when it's done well. On the other hand I hate waiting for each new story. Also by their very definition serials usually end in some sort of cliffhanger or at the very least in a fashion that leaves you wanting more and that can be pure agony at times. So I had to ask myself: Do you want more? You betcha! Did it leave off right when it was starting to get exciting? Sort of but not really, the whole story was exciting. Did it end in a horrible cliffhanger? Not really, at least not by my definition of a cliffhanger although yours may be different. Am I eagerly awaiting the next episode? My answer to that is: Do women find British accents hot? Yes and Yes!
From the moment Jennifer and William meet you can literally see the sparks flying. The two have a natural chemistry together that goes well beyond physical attraction although their attraction to each other helps and is what gets things started. The rest of the story seems to be something straight out of a fairy tale. Cinderella to be exact and the reality of Jennifer's just one night turns out to be greater than her wildest fantasies. Their first kiss is just hot! The sexual tension between the two of them just continually rises throughout the story until it all comes to a head (no pun intended) in one explosive moment. I'm not usually one for a lot of descriptive sex in my stories and I rarely enjoy it unless it's there to really enhance the characters and the storyline itself. I felt that Elle Casey did an outstanding job in this department. Their encounter felt real. I don't want to get into the specifics of anything but I really enjoyed the way it played out. I was really afraid that she might do what so many romance authors do which is just too much and too long. Instead their supposed one night together just fit the story and the situation so perfectly. It wasn't there just to fill pages or to add more content. It was just a part of the story that enhanced it dramatically.
Just One Night is both sexy and fun and I feel that Elle Casey has really reached a new height with this one. I think her sexy scenes are getting better and they were already great to begin with but this one just felt so right and I loved how she was able to make you feel the tension and excitement that was in the air. I just can't wait to read the next one. I want to know what happens and I want to know now! I want to read as fate pulls Jennifer and William together. It was apparent to me from the very first moment that they laid eyes on each other that this was going to be so much more than either of them bargained for. It might not be what they thought they wanted but for whatever reason all of the stars in the universe aligned perfectly on this one night just for them and I can't wait to find out how destiny pulls them together.
(Note from Jamie: Congratulations to The Grand World of Books. I can't wait to see their new blog. I know I've been wanting to fix up my plain ol' blog so I can imagine how excited they must be. I'm going to keep watching their blog so I can see what it looks like)
Was it you????
It might have been.
Congrats - The Grand World of Books you are the winner.
Hello everyone. I finally got around to making a page on different sources for free images that you can use on your blog. I don't currently have too many of them yet because I just haven't been using a lot of images but I plan to do more with them soon so I'll be adding them as I go.
Here's the page at: http://jamiesbookblog.booklikes.com/Source-for-images
I hope these help some of you and I'll be adding more soon. Sorry it took me so long.
Jamie
(Note from Jamie. It's come to my attention that this one started off as fanfiction. Obviously it's up to you on whether you want to buy it or not but I did want to let everyone know.)
Animate Me by Ruth Clampett is now only .99 cents. This one comes highly recommended by a friend and fellow book blogger. I've had it on my wishlist forever and just grabbed it. Give it a try if it's something that you might be interested in reading. I can't wait to start it soon.
Here's the blurb:
She seemed far beyond his reach…could love draw them together?
For years shy animator Nathan has carried a torch for Brooke, the beautiful and dynamic Director of Development at their animation studio, even creating B-Girl, a comic-book heroine in her likeness. When a new project throws the two of them together, lovestruck Nathan finally seizes his moment – only to find Arnauld, head of the animation studio, claiming exclusive rights to Brooke’s affections.
But Nathan, it turns out, is not giving up on his dreams so easily. With inspired determination, he sets out to be the super hero of wooing his girl. Threatened by his persistence, Arnauld plays dirty – only to spark an uprising at the studio that unleashes the sort of havoc only a building full of frustrated animators can create. While Nathan pulls out all the stops to win his B-girl, Brooke has to choose. Should she pursue the sparkling career that has taken her years to build…or follow her heart?
Elle Casey totally snuck this one in on us. I didn't even know she was working on it. I'll admit I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one or not. It's always a little bit scary when one of your favorite authors does something new and she's been really pushing herself as a writer lately by getting out of her comfort zone and trying new things. She wrote her first romance a while back, made a big splash in the new adult romance scene and now she's writing her first serial novel. According to the blurb this one is "Sexy" and not intended for young readers. She plans to put out a new episode every two to three weeks.
I haven't finished it yet but I've been enjoying it so far. I just love that you never know what to expect from her. She writes a bit of everything. YA, Fantasy, Dystopian, Post-Apocalyptic, Chic Lit, New Adult Romance, a bit of Paranormal romance, etc but one thing her books have in common is they're all great. I love the characters and the story lines. So I'm pretty excited to go on this new journey with her and love the fact that this serial will be evolving according to reader feedback. As soon as I'm through reading I'm heading over to her site and let her know what I thought. I love the thought of being able to help shape the direction this serial takes :D
Here's the blurb:
Jennifer is sexually frustrated and disillusioned with love, a very dangerous combination. Convinced there's no such thing as Prince Charming, and against her best friend's better judgment, she places a personal ad seeking a one-night stand. No strings, no commitments, no second dates. Her goal? To restore her faith in men by setting up a single night of fantasy that can never be tainted by reality.
William is a busy executive, newly arrived in the United States from England. Life for him is all about minimizing complications. He doesn't have the time nor the inclination to share his life with anyone, to have obligations outside of work, or to become entangled in a relationship with an emotional basket case of a woman who’s desperately seeking her Prince Charming. But he does see the value in having an attractive woman in his arm for networking purposes ...
Aarrgghhh! How did I miss this one?
Do you want to read the first two chapters of Laini Taylor's: Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #3)?
Do dragons want to eat fleeing villagers?
You bet I do!

Do you want to be an author? Or are you already an author? Either way this workshop may be the perfect thing for you. MagicalWords.net is one of my favorite blogs run by Faith Hunter, David B. Coe, Misty Massey (and many other authors) but these three will be hosing a workshop in July where you can not only meet them along with some publishers but they will also offer their feedback on the first 2500 words of your manuscript. If you've always wanted to be a writer but aren't sure if your works ready or just love writing workshops in general then this may be the workshop for you. Sounds like an exciting opportunity. Please check out the link for more information. I believe the workshop is $25 to attend.
I love MagicalWords.net they always have great tips on writing and just a lot of excellent posts on anything and everything to do with writing. It's run by a whole host of authors and I'd love to go to one of their tours or workshops one day. I just thought there may be some people out there who'd be interested in this. If nothing else check out their website for some great articles.

*** Just adding my two cents. I love what I've read of E's, and I have more on the Kindle waiting for me.
This is not a review. Just a nostalgic moment.
Years ago I was experiencing some horrible personal problems and I was basically sick as a dog. I don't really get that saying though, I mean dog's aren't sick, they're pretty awesome but let's just go with it. Anyway I was extremely ill and I couldn't do anything. I couldn't eat or drink and my whole world was just one empty void of despair. I'd had this book forever and decided to try and read it. Up to this point I hadn't been able to concentrate on reading anything but this book completely sucked me in. I can remember the part where Michael was a small boy and having just fled from some bad guys through the Russian forest, he ran head first into a pack of wild wolves and was bitten by one. He wakes up in an old broken down monastery and learns that these are no ordinary wolves but werewolves. Men and women who have decided to live as wolves do away from society and soon enough he starts getting very ill. Not many survive the change and rarely does one so young survive it. His tenacity and strength of character were evident to Wiktor early on. Wiktor, oh Wiktor. He was the pack's alpha male or leader and was the most perfect mentor I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. If you're familiar with the fantasy genre then you know the whole formula for the hero and his mentor. Even though this isn't a fantasy book per se he still fit that bill. When Michael wouldn't eat he basically told him to just give up and die that way there would be more food for the rest of the pack. He understood that Michael was high strung, an aristocratic boy who had the blood of ancient warrior's flowing through his veins.
I can just remember being so enthralled and enchanted by the flashback scenes. The book starts off during WWII and Michael is a spy working for the Allies. His unique abilities give him an edge when it comes to his job but the flashbacks, that's where the magic was at least for me during that initial read. I can still recall being so horribly sick and pretending I was going through the exact same thing that Michael was. That I was going through the change of becoming a werewolf instead of just being miserably sick like I was. This book helped me to make it through those days. It transported me from my horrible world into a better one and for that I will always have a special place for it in my heart.
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading it yet then I highly urge you to do so. It's an older book but still one of the best of it's kind. Robert R. McCammon is a masterful storyteller and one day I'll have to share my reading experiences of his wonderful books Boy's Life or Swan Song. I plan on rereading all of these and reviewing them as soon as possible. These are just some of my favorite books and this is why this book will always be one of my favorites. One day I hope to get my old, battered and taped up paperback signed by the author. I don't want a new one signed. I want my old raggedy copy signed, the same one who's taped up condition holds so many memories for me.
I was just thinking about some of my personality traits and then I got to thinking how some of those traits just don't get along very well together and this post is the result.
Here's some personality traits that just don't go well together.
1. Perfectionism + Procrastination = I'm a perfectionist. Unfortunately I'm also a procrastinator so most of the time all I end up doing is perfecting how to procrastinate :/
2. Cynicism + Positiveness = I'm a cynic at heart but I'm trying really hard to be positive. Someday's all I manage to be is positively cynical :/
3. Openness + Antisocial = I'm open to trying new things and adventures......just not with you.
Some honorable mentions of other personality traits that don't work well together.
4. Empathetic + Narcissism - These guys have a lot of empathy, unfortunately they're narcissists so they only have empathy for themselves. They literally get giddy when it comes to "feeling your pain." Remember the game show Press Your Luck where people would scream, "No whammies, no whammies. Big Money!" well these guys love to scream "Big whammies, Big whammies. No Money!"
5. Neurotic + Extrovert = I'm the life of the slumber party.....massacre that is
