Jane Yellowrock is sent with an envoy of Leo's to Asheville, North Carolina to act as securty when the head vampire there seeks permission to become Master of the City but unfortunatly evil from Jane's past follows her there. Amid crowded protests that people are making about the vampires something is killing campers in the woods and the fearful city folk think it is the vampires who have come to town. Jane's job is to find who or what is killing people along with keeping Leo's people safe and she's about to gets a whole lot more than she bargained for in the process. I honestly have to say that THIS is the book where everything starts to change. Jane's mysterious past starts to catch up with her. New foes along with rash decisions will plague Jane for a long time. She is also forced to confront a growing evil, an evil that is all to familiar to her and her friends and in the process she may lose everything that she holds dear. Do not skip this one. It is probably the single most important book in the series and my second favorite in the series right after Death's Rival.
